Synopsis
Thirteen year old Sarah struggles to deal with a terrifying truth and locks herself away from the outside world. She is forced to look deep within and choose to either keep her vow of silence, or confront her most debilitating fear to save the one she loves. Sarah finally decides that to have peace, there must be no more hiding.

The Film
Silence was written and produced as a means of raising awareness around child sexual abuse. This is accomplished through the combined use of the film and a detailed study guide.

Silence is a suspense thriller that, while only 13 minutes long, appeals to youth and adults alike. It was designed to grab the viewer's attention and keep it right to the end. Its use of powerful visual imagery and an equally compelling musical score makes Silence poignant and appropriate for a variety of audiences. As a compelling film it has the potential to disseminate important information across a wide and diverse audience.

We hope that viewers, who have been spared this heartbreaking form of child victimization, will have a better understanding of what survivors go through. Even more important is our hope that survivors feel less alone, realise that it was not their fault and that there are people who care deeply about them and their struggle to feel whole again.

The Study Guide
The goal of this project is to educate children, teachers, and parents, about prevention and/or effective intervention.

Prepared by Clinical Psychologist Shashanna Evans-Kocinski and Professor Freda Briggs AO, the study guide offers counsellors and educators an easier way of opening up discussions with students about a topic that is normally difficult to address.

Freda Briggs is Emeritus Professor of Child Development at the University of South Australia and has been conducting pioneering research in dealing with victims and perpetrators of child abuse for decades and was awarded Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in 2005.

Paper Boats, based on a true story, the film will allow the viewer to be a fly on the wall in the life of a young boy as he deals with physical and emotional abuse.

SYNOPSIS
This is the story of eleven year old Jake and his internal struggle to stay positive amidst a life of abuse. Jake’s rollercoaster of emotions illustrate just how unbelievably powerful the spoken word can be; that whether positive or negative, our words can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those around us and on how they perceive themselves.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words can either break or build me.
